How To Reduce Glare From Lights

Nowadays, LED technical is getting more mature, more and more professional requests from customer could been satisfied. Such as: super energy saving, CRI97, 2 steps MacAdam Ellipse, low glare/dazzle etc.

What is glare of light


First we need to know: What is a glare?  Whether it is day or night, glare will produce. for example: direct light or reflected light, from a concealed places into high bright sunlight,even white snow and sand. even the windows and computer screen. sometime glare will make us feel uncomfortable, special in the office places. This is why we want to reduce glare of light. 

How to control glare?


As one of the leading manufacturer of LED Light in CHINA, UPSHINE would like to introduce you the main methods to control glare/dazzle while designing LED light. Currently, we have below 4 methods:


NO.1: Control the cut off angle

Considering human’s vision line and elevation angle, designing the cut-off angle of 40° to keep light out of the sight, it can utmostly eliminate offensive glare light, given out an “eye-friendly” light, make people feel comfortable. While Cut-off angle is smaller, glare light is more.  During various application, demand various cut-off angle:

 

  • Professional lighting need cut-off angle >=40° 
  • Office lighting need cut-off angle>= 30°
  • Common lighting need cut-off angle >=20°

This method usually used to design LED Downlight, LED Panel. Shortcoming of this method: the light fixture is too high, not suitable for low ceiling.

NO.2: Adopt Prismatic Diffuser


Prismatic diffuser with small hexagon can adjust light transmit direction, control the fixture with less glare light. This method suitable for designing LED Panel, LED Batten.

NO.3: Adopt Anti-Glare Film

Bright View Technology anti-glare film restrain the offensive light through micro-structure at surface of film, to centralize the light together. Below is the light distribution comparison before and after use the anti-glare film. Before use the BVT film, the light distribution is blue line. After use BVT film, the light distribution is red line, the glare light (>65 degree offensive light )been restrained, the effective light at middle been enhanced.
