Different Standards and Solutions on UGR 19 Panel Light

As the development of LED technology, the radiance of LED chip increase dramatically, the beam angle gets more narrower and narrower, The wide application of LED ultravilet and blue laser has caused the harm of radiation be a problem that cannot be ignored, it will have a influence in health of our eyes. Hence, many companies will adopt different solutions to reduce the UGR to make it more comfortable.

UGR (Unified Glare Rating) is a calculation method that helps lighting designers create schemes to avoid the discomfort of misplaced light, it is an indicative rating for glare based on prescribed set of circumstances in a lit environment. Glare sources within a typical field of vision on the lit environment can be numerous.

For low UGR LED products, the UGR19 panel light is widely be used for office lighting. Usually manufacturers will adopt below solutions to reach the UGR19.

  1. The common one is adopting the prismatic diffuser
  2. Adopt America Bright View UGR diffuser, but price will be high
  3. Louver design with reflector to replace the diffuser
  4. If above solutions still cannot reach UGR <19 successfully, reduce the total lumen output

In the market, many clients are requiring UGR19 panel light, but different clients have different standards on UGR, most of clients only require the first value of 4H/8H at 70/50/20 should <19, or the 3rd value for 4H/3H should <19, adopt the Anti-glare diffuser is enough.
